At St James School we believe that play is fundamental to each child’s development and we are very pleased to be able to offer Little Jimmies Playgroup, coordinated by the wonderful Amanda Taylor
Sessions are held in St James Learning Centre on Wednesday mornings from 9.30am - 11am during school term time.
Each week there is a different theme and there is a wide range of activities available to suit all ages from birth to preschool. Some of the themes that we have had are: Bubbles, Australia, Pirates, Circus, Food, Robots, Music, Monsters, Wings, Flowers, Ocean, Space, Dragons & Dinosaurs, Nature……just to name a few!
As well as engaging, fun activities for the children to interact through, this is a great way for parents to meet up, make new friends, exchange ideas, frustrations and joys! You do not need to have a connection with St James School already to come along – everyone is welcome! It is important to connect, keep in touch and support each other in our community.

“Play and active investigation are all important vehicles for developing self-regulation as well as promoting language, cognition and social competence in children of all ages. Play gives children opportunities to develop physical competence and enjoyment of the outdoors, understand and make sense of their world, interact with others, express and control emotions, develop their symbolic and problem-solving abilities and practise emerging skills. Research shows strong links between play and foundational capacities such as memory, self-regulation, oral language abilities, social skills and success in school.” (Coppple & Bredekamp 2009; Jones & Reynolds 1992).
